ClearShield is a privacy-first content blocker that helps keep your browsing cleaner and safer. What it does Blocks ads and trackers (best-effort) Strict Mode: blocks extra ad/tracker networks (may break some sites) Popup & Redirect Protection: stops forced popups, scam redirects, and “Allow notifications” traps Hide page ads (cosmetic): removes ad containers for a cleaner look (toggleable) Per-site controls: pause protection on a site if something breaks One-tap “Site broken? Fix”: quickly relaxes settings for the current site and reloads Transparency: shows what’s blocked + local “recent blocks” log (if enabled) Privacy promise ClearShield runs locally in your browser. We do not collect or sell browsing history. Settings, allowlist, and block counts are stored locally on your device. Notes Some websites may detect blockers or change often. If a page breaks, use the Site broken? Fix button or disable protection for that site. Single purpose description: ClearShield is a privacy-first content blocker that reduces ads/trackers and helps prevent disruptive popups and scam redirects to keep browsing cleaner and safer. In the same tab, look for Permissions justification (there will be boxes for each permission). Paste these: alarms Used to schedule periodic background tasks like refreshing rule state and housekeeping without needing the popup open. declarativeNetRequest Used to block network requests for known ad/tracker domains using Chrome’s declarative rules system (best-effort blocking). declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess Used to apply blocking rules only on sites where the extension has host access and to support per-site allow/disable controls. host permissions Needed so ClearShield can run protections on the sites the user visits and apply filtering/cosmetic changes on those pages. remote code use No remote code execution. The extension does not download or run external scripts. Updates are only delivered via the Chrome Web Store. storage Used to save user settings locally (mode, per-site allowlist, toggles, preferences). No sensitive personal data required. tabs Used to apply actions to the active tab (toggle protection for the current site, “Site broken? Fix”, and reload after changes). Not used to read browsing history. webNavigation Used to detect navigations/redirects so protections apply consistently on page loads and to help stop redirect chains.
