What our analysis found
Black Clover New Tab Wallpaper, used by 1,000 people, showed no malicious code in Extension Auditor's review. It comes from a publisher with 15 extensions and was last updated in June 2026.
Analyst notes
All four JS files reviewed contain straightforward new-tab extension behavior: a clock, local wallpaper rotation from bundled images, a search bar using the declared `search` permission via `chrome.search.query()`, localStorage-based shortcuts, and navigation links exclusively to [domain withheld] (publisher domain). The bundled manifest is an exact match to the published manifest summary — no discrepancy, no hidden host_permissions, no undeclared capabilities. No data is transmitted to any third party; the only outbound references are Google Fonts (UI typography) and Google's favicon service (used to display shortcut icons). The ML score is driven by inflated feature signals — 57 bundled wallpaper images and 32 files push file-count features up, and the 28% publisher malice rate contaminates the model's publisher-reputation signal — but none of these correlate with anything harmful in the actual code.
