# How to Use AI Chat Exporter (Chrome Web Store Version) ## 1. Using the Extension ### Exporting a Chat - Go to [Gemini](https://gemini.google.com/) or [ChatGPT](https://chatgpt.com/) and open any chat conversation. - You will see an **Export Chat** button at the top right of the page. - Click the button. It will show "Exporting..." while processing. - A Markdown file will be downloaded automatically: - **For ChatGPT:** The filename and heading will match the conversation title (spaces replaced with underscores, invalid filename characters removed), and a timestamp will be appended for uniqueness. Example: `My_Chat_Title_2025-07-16_153012.md` - **For Gemini:** A generic filename and heading are used (Gemini does not provide a reliable conversation title), and a timestamp will be appended for uniqueness. Example: `gemini_chat_export_2025-07-16_153012.md` - The timestamp ensures each export is unique, even if you update and export the same conversation again. ### Hiding the Export Button - Click the extension icon in the Chrome toolbar. - In the popup, use the checkbox to **Hide export button**. - The export button will instantly disappear from Gemini and ChatGPT pages. - You can show the button again by unchecking the box. ## 2. Permissions - The extension requires clipboard access to copy chat responses using the built-in copy button. - This is necessary for exporting perfectly formatted chat content. ## 3. Troubleshooting - If the export button does not appear, make sure you are on a supported chat page (Gemini or ChatGPT). - If the export button is not visible, click the extension icon and check the popup. If "Hide export button" is enabled, uncheck it and reload the page. - Ensure the extension is installed and enabled in Chrome. - If you encounter issues with clipboard access, check your browser permissions. ## 4.
